Two animated shows have been singled out as winners at the 86th Annual George Foster Peabody Awards. Common Side Effects has been recognized in the Entertainment section with eleven live-action shows. Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is this year’s sole recipient in the Children’s & Youth category. The Apple TV+ animated series Shape Island was previously announced as a Peabody nominee. It didn’t advance to the next round with Common Side Effects and Moon Girl, however. The game South of Midnight was singled out in the Immersive & Interactive section as well.
Joe Bennett and Steve Hely created Common Side Effects, which premiered on Adult Swim in February 2025. This timely satire of conspiracies and Big Pharma stands out as the first Adult Swim series to receive a Peabody Award since The Boondocks, which was honored for the 2006 episode, “Return of the King.” Common Side Effects recently won four Annie Awards, winning Best General Audience Animated Television Broadcast Production. The first season also received nominations at the Primetime Emmys and Critics’ Choice Awards.
Steve Loter, Jeffrey M. Howard, and Kate Kondell developed Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, based on the Marvel comic series of the same name. Moongirl was previously nominated for a Peabody Award in 2023, although it wasn’t among that year’s winners. Wrapping its second and final season in 2025, Moongirl has also won five Annie Awards and eight Children's and Family Emmys. It joins a handful of animated Disney shows that’ve won Peabody Awards, including The Owl House, Bluey, and Doc McStuffins.
The 86th Annual George Foster Peabody Awards will take place on May 31, 2026.
