Bright & Shiny: A History of Animation at Award Shows Volume 2

The second volume of Bright & Shiny is now available at Amazon, BearManor Media, and Barnes & Noble! Volume III is just around the corner. When I set out to write a book about animation at award shows, I never imagined it would amount to a trilogy. The more interviews and research I conducted, though, the more ambitious the project became. This middle volume picks up with the Emmys, providing a deep dive into shows like Animaniacs, Family Guy, Futurama, King of the Hill, Muppet Babies, The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, The Powerpuff Girls, Rugrats, Samurai Jack, The Simpsons, South Park, and SpongeBob SquarePants, among others. On the film side, Volume II covers everything from Toy Story’s Special Achievement Academy Award to WALL-E’s pursuit of a Best Picture nomination. With other highlights like Shrek winning the first Oscar for Best Animated Feature, anime arriving at the Oscars through Spirited Away, and the Annie Awards entering another turning point, the best has yet to come!
