Sinners was the big winner at the 9th Astra Awards, taking home six prizes, including Best Picture - Drama. The second biggest winner of the night was another film about fighting demons with music. KPop Demon Hunters scored three wins for Best Animated Feature, Best Voice Over Performance (Arden Cho as Rumi’s speaking voice), and Best Original Song (“Golden”). The Best Animated Feature lineup also included Arco, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle, In Your Dreams, Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, and Zootopia 2. Cho’s fellow voiceover nominees were Nick Offerman (The Life of Chuck), Will Patton (Train Dreams), Natalie Portman (Arco), Shakira (Zootopia 2), and Scarlett Sher (Weapons).
For Best Original Song, “Golden” rose above "Clothed by the Sun" from The Testament of Ann Lee, "The Girl in the Bubble" from Wicked: For Good, "I Lied to You" from Sinners, "No Place Like Home" from Wicked: For Good, and "Train Dreams" from Train Dreams. Considering how hard the Hollywood Creative Alliance went for Sinners, it’s especially impressive that “Golden” managed to win over “I Lied to You.” “Golden” previously won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Original Song. “I Lied to You” can still make a comeback at the Golden Globes on Sunday. If “Golden” wins the Globe as well, though, it may be undeniable come Oscar time.
